The challenge
A training platform built on an existing learning management system needed to support much larger organisations, with 10,000 or more users each.
What already held up
The platform's request lifecycle is straightforward, so learners working through courses and their SCORM progress being written back to the API coped well. That side only needed small tweaks.
Where the work was
Reporting. Large organisations want reports across every user, and building those while someone waits does not scale. I helped reshape the heaviest database queries so they did far less work, and suggested and implemented queues and queue workers so reports are produced in the background.
The result
The platform supports organisations of 10,000+ users, and reporting keeps up without slowing everything else down.
